Preparing a quick and delicious meal three times a day is not easy, especially if you have a busy schedule or job. But if you know what you are doing, you can easily plan ahead and do some amazing and productive meal prep on the weekends that will significantly reduce the time you spend on preparing meals during the week.
Doing meal prep saves you a lot of time, plus you will also be able to keep your diet under control and avoid unhealthy foods like take out. So here is a list of some basic tips that will allow you to prep some delicious and nutritious meals so that you can save time during the week.
1. Use the Right Kind of Containers
If you are doing meal prep, then you will need to have the right kind of containers to store the food. I personally prefer to have glass containers instead of plastic containers. There are many reasons why glass containers are better than plastic. You can easily see what is inside them, they are microwave friendly, and they won’t affect the taste of food, even if it’s left for a few days.
Plastic containers can release toxins and chemicals when they are warmed up so if you even opt for plastic container, make sure to get BPA-free containers.
2. Don’t Prep Too Many Meals
Don’t do any meal prep for longer than five days. Most of the homemade food that you will prep will hardly last for more than five days. So, make meal prep plans only for one week at a time and prep new meals every weekend.
3. Freeze Food for Long-Term Meal Prep
If you want to prep food for a long time, then you will need to freeze it. Freezing food can make it last for months. You should boil up some foods like chicken and beans and freeze them whenever you need to eat them, take a little out, defrost it, put a little seasoning on it and you have a delicious and nutritious meal ready to eat within 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Add Fruits to Your Diet
A great way to save time while eating and getting nutritious and healthy meals easily is by adding a lot of fruits to your diet. Fruits have a lot of vitamins and minerals that are very healthy for the body and you don’t have to do any cooking or preparation to have fruits. You can just grab some from the fridge and eat up. You can make some fruit salads with different varieties of fruit like kiwis, squash, melons and many others. 5. Cook in Bulk
If you want to become a master food prepper, you need to learn how to make larger batches of your favorite meals. Making larger batches of foods, especially the ones that freeze well will take your meal prepping skills to the next level. For example, when you make something like soup, always make extra because soup can last forever in the freezer. Also, make things that are used in multiple recipes like marinara sauce in bulk and freeze them.
I hope the tips mentioned above help you out. Have a wonderful day!
