In a small study, researchers concluded that people with vinegar in their food items had a lesser intake of 200 to 275 calories for the day than the people who did not have vinegar. This results in diminishing insulin levels and blood sugar levels. Several studies have also backed that this property of vinegar is also a decent option for reducing & treating type 2 diabetes.
  5. May aid cancer treatment: Apple cider vinegar can also aid in treating some kinds of cancer. However, apple cider vinegar has benefits on cancer that has not been scientifically proven. The researchers did not attempt this application on human cells. But, the main compound of vinegar, which is acetic acid, can be beneficial in treating several types of gastric cancers. Moreover, it contains polyphenols that may prevent cancer cells from growing.
  6. Animal cardiac health booster: Various factors lead to heart diseases and death (caused by cardiac diseases). Vinegar is helpful in reducing the risks of heart ailments in animals. It assists in lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It also helps in regulating and lowering blood pressure. 
  7. Healthy skin: Vinegar has excellent properties that purify skin and reduce skin diseases. It helps treat ailments like dry skin and eczema. It regulates the pH of the skin as human skin is a bit acidic. This is the reason several acne face washes have vinegar. Moreover, vinegar also helps in treating dandruff.

Vinegar: Downsides

Anything in excess causes problems. Too much consumption of vinegar can also lead to harmful consequences. These side-effects are stated below.

  1. Delay in stomach emptying: It is known that vinegar lowers the rate at which food leaves the stomach, resulting in delayed entry into the lower digestive tract. As a result, there is a slow absorption of the food in the bloodstream. The upgraded version of this effect is gastroparesis condition. In this, the food remains in the stomach for a much more extended period, and the stomach nerves do not function at an average pace. It becomes difficult to estimate that at which rate the system will excrete the food. This condition can be aggravated if the person has type 1 diabetes.
  2. Bone loss: Excessive quantities of ACV lead to lower potassium levels, eventually leading to bone loss and decreased muscle & nerves growth. The high acidic content in the body can be an extensive contributor to low bone growth and the building of new bone. However, the case is not supported by a lot of research studies. 
  3. Deteriorating dental health: Acetic acid is a furious enemy of calcium carbonates. Apple cider vinegar rampages the growth of teeth and damages tooth enamel at a much faster rate. A study was conducted where a tooth enamel was put in different pH levels of vinegar. It concluded that the higher the time, the higher the nutrient value of the tooth was lost.
  4. Throat burns: Apple cider has a significant downside of causing esophageal (throat) burns. It has acidic substances that are kept away from children. It is also found that the cheap qualities of vinegar in the market also leads to bad throats because of low-quality ingredients.

It is also important to keep vinegar in the right containers like a glass jar or a bottle. You must avoid keeping it in containers made of brass, copper, iron, or tin (as they will cause reactions). If taken in considerable quantities, vinegar can be a healthy option. Following are the tips to safely consume vinegar:

  • Begin with small amounts of vinegar in your diet with food items. Set a limit of maximum consumption to 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar.
  • If you are taking vinegar daily, then have large quantities of water in it. More dilution, the safer the vinegar consumption is.
  • Rinse and brush your teeth soon after the intake of vinegar because it has harsh impacts on teeth, as mentioned earlier.
  • Stop the consumption of vinegar if you find any side effects in the form of any allergy or reactions.
