History of Houlihan’s

Houlihan’s has had an interesting and growing history. Just a year ago it was brought under new management. Let’s look over this company’s interesting history. The franchise initially began from a partnership of two men, Joe Gilbert and Paul Robinson. Both of these men had history in the restaurant history.

The two soon formed a restaurant firm. This firm would go on to open many new places. Plaza III Steakhouse and Gilbert and Robinson’s (later named Sam and Wilson’s) were both opened by this firm. Houlihan’s itself was located in an old men’s clothing store that gave the chain its current name. The restaurant was opened on April 1st, 1972.

The duo found success in their endeavor. It was so great that the pair began an effort to open their franchise nationwide. A second location was founded in New Orleans Louisiana in 1973, another in Atlanta Georgia in 1974. The chain continued from there, making new and profitable locations.

In 2006, the chain received a redesign. This was so that the chain could be updated to fix new cultural tastes in interior design. Further, new music was added, uniforms changed, and even the menu format was adapted. Now, there are 84 locations across the United States. The company is based in Leawood, Kansas.

There are several locations across the United States. There is one in Virginia, Maryland, Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. There is even a joke location on Mars in the Gale Crater.
